Weekend Getaway: A little bit Greecy Times LIVE

It doesn't go through very "Greek island" to be playing family bingo at lunch time, but there are olives and feta cubes in the salad, so we can't grouch.

In fact, we're not complaining at all because we've been invited to join a friend for a mid-week break at Club Mykonos, which is like spending a fleeting, borrowed holiday in a Cycladic brochure.

The bingo moment, under a thatched boma at the poolside Oceanis Bar, has attracted a full assembly, keeping the "legs 11, clickety click" caller very busy handing out fleck prizes.

A table of quick-draw dudes have been especially lucky, winning themselves a bottle of Groote Pillar wine and lunch for two at Boesmanland, the plaaskombuis next to the Tropicana Bar on Hobie Beach, just outside the resort.

There's a border-up of activities and we're disappointed that we missed last night's family quiz and didn't think to bring the right takkies to contend with tennis on the all-available courts.

But, quite honestly, just bowling around the slate-paved paths of this village of shuttered kalivas (apartments) and sporadically plopping into any one of the six small-minded pools edged with hanging gardens feels so much like being on holiday that you really don't have to do anything.
