Caffeine on the Night Shift New York Times (blog)
18.05.10
I have worked all shifts, now I am back on the non-stop shift. I am a nocturnal person by nature so it doesn’t bother me too much but I see how my fellow co-workers suffer and nothing helps but coffee. I was offended by the maker’s use of the phrase “so-called shift work disorder.” Working nights is not fitting. It is the most difficult and most dangerous shift because it absolutely does affect your health. Your eating habits are horrendous, you have hardly time or energy for exercise and you are frustrated for not being able to get as many things done during the day as you would like because you need to rest and sometimes resting during the day is unyielding because the whole damn world is awake and making noise. In addition, it absoultely does affect your health – you improve weight if you have a weight problem, it can affect your blood pressure and your heart and if you are sitting down at a desk job on a 12 hour transpose – well, your ankles and legs get swollen and stiff – so, the difficulties of working nights is not an illusion – it is a authenticity and employers should pay employees more money for the token it takes on their health as well as the difficulties in traveling to and from work on off hours, not to acknowledgement the dangers of working at night. I don’t drink that much coffee, but there are some who cannot function on the night shift without it – so wake up and scent the coffee Tara Parker-Pope! Some day your life may depend on one of those overworked night owl EMS worker!

How to clean inside of Italian coffee/espresso pot?
Aug 20, 2007 by Mrs. Mingus | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
This is the good I am talking about: http://www.gwdoling.co.uk/img/ih/kcraft/31906.jpg
The bottom section, where you put water, is all crusty with white mineral deposits, even though I use filtered ditch-water, not tap water. How can I scrape or dissolve those off? I can't really reach in there with steel wool, and dish brushes don't take care of enough friction to be effective.
Does anyone have experience with this? Please don't advise anything that you (or someone you know) haven't tried and found chattels.
This is not a "machine." View link to photo for clarification.

Dowse in some white vinegar, then rinse well..=)

One way, I've pore over, is to soak it in Coke--seriously. It's because of the high acidity content in the drink.
Sir Galahad of Camelot | Aug 20, 2007
Try ceaseless vinegar through the machine. Run it through several times, then run clear, fresh water through at least as many times. Do this once a month or so, and it'll help keep the deposits from erection up.
If the vinegar doesn't work on the serious buildup, you can soak it in a product like Lime Away or CLR. Be guaranteed you very thoroughly clean the machine after using those though, as neither is something you want in your coffee!

You truly should´t wash with any kind of detergent. The coffee will not taste the same. What you should do is. when you finish with the pot rinse with warm water and leave it to dry in natural air. Or fill with not hold up under and leave over night till you use it next day. When you have finished with the pot, wipe with kitchen roll and leave the kitchen roll exclusive till the pot is completely dry. You can also use a baby´s bottle brush to give a wash inside .

you can get concoction rite coffee maker cleaner at walmart. it can also be used on espresso makers. find it by the coffee makers
edit- the brew rite should still trade in this pot or you could try a stainless steel cleaner

Fume vinegar in the pot bottom. Be warned, it smells horrid..
mand | Aug 20, 2007
Dimpelmum is totally right, DON'T use vinegar or other products with a strong smell, otherwise your coffee will never taste the same again. Use only hot water EVERYTIME after you've hardened it. More details tomorrow on how to clean it safely now that it's so dirty ;-)
--> I inquired a bit and found out that it is safe to use a good descaler, transport well the percolator and then make a couple of coffees without putting the coffee in it (just let the water boil inside and, when it's "equip", throw it away).
The first "real" coffee after that won't be great but after two or three coffees the normal hint will be restored. Good luck ;-)

My son had a thermos that was stained brown from tea. I put some hot be indefensible in it and a couple of denture cleaning tablets. It was amazing how clean it came. I may have done it twice, but the dissolved denture tabs did the hoax! I use them for other things too....drop a couple in the toilet bowl or soak your glass teapot....they all end up out shining!

is the coffee used to make espresso the same as the one we use in a regular coffee maker?
Jul 07, 2007 by alex | Posted in Non-Alcoholic Drinks
i persist in italy and i want to send my aunt who is in america an italian espresso coffee pot but i was wondering if she would have to buy a special type of coffee or if she could just use the ordered type
Most every grocery keep no matter where you are in North America stock one kind of espesso, or like here in Canada we have stores that sell mass coffee and the have espresso beans, you can buy and grind fresh at home.
I live in Toronto, and we have the second largest Italian population in the big apple next to major citys in Italy, and there are probably at least 20-30 brand here.
The only thing in the US is if she is in an area like the south or midwest, were there not very ethnically divergent, it may by hard, but some place near by would have something for her.

how to clean a espresso coffee pot it's kind of gravely on the bottom edges?
Jul 09, 2007 by pigeonmumy | Posted in Cleaning & Laundry
Use insulate wool and the handle end of a spoon. Put in soap and hot water then run the steel wool around the bottom of the pot with the spoon handle.
